The glamour photographer has been around for many years now, but where did this genre of photography start and how has it grown over the years?
Sex is everywhere. These days, what used to be considered as brazen and audacious, is now just the norm. If you don’t see cleavage, legs and bum cheeks then something probably isn’t quite right. But this spiralling road to full-blown nudity started long ago, with an extensive history of provocative imagery and female seductiveness. The glamour photographer first walked our studios decades ago but today this career continues to blossom as the world is no longer sheepish about sex.
What exactly is Glamour Photography?
Highly differentiable from other genres, the glamour photographer focuses all attention and energy on the model in question. There are no other subjects involved in the shot - such as the items of clothing as seen in fashion imagery, or products as seen in advertising. The environment is second to the model, and should either fit in well with the model’s look or enhance her appearance.
Ronaldo Gomez, Acclaimed Glamour Photographer
Ronaldo Gomez is a glamour photographer from Texas, with a large amount of experience, shooting for Parade Magazine, Playboy, Stars and Stripes, D-Pixx Magazine and more. He explains the difference between fashion and glamour: “Normally, in fashion photography the model looks away or in another direction from the camera lens, not at the camera.”
In glamour, it’s about making eye contact, connecting with the model and creating a stir. Whether that be arousal, attraction, admiration or approval, the glamour photographer tries to inspire emotion from the audience.
The World of Glamour over the Years
In the early 1900s, the ‘pinup’ was born, and this usually consisted of women in skimpy clothing, but never nude.In 1953, Playboy changed the way we looked at women forever. With the launch of the first ever magazine to focus on the naked body, the age of the glamour photographer business evolved. Today, magazines try to create glamour with a bit more ‘tease’. Showing less nudity, more creativity and more eye contact, today’s images can be more thought provoking than the original nude shots as seen in Playboy.
This suggestive genre has expanded rapidly over time and the glamour photographer will find sensuality and emotion with every shoot.
